There's a Baby In There?

The other night, your big sister Ellie picked out the book "I'm A Big Sister Now" to read at night time.  Since I was putting both girls down together that night, Charlotte read it with us.  Before we started the book I took Charlotte's hand and put it on my belly and said, "There's a baby in there, Charlotte."  She pulled her hand away and gave me a funny look, so I just went ahead and started reading the book.

About three pages in, Charlotte turned around, pointed to my belly and asked, "There's a baby in there?"
"Yes!  There's a baby in there," I responded.
Two pages later, "There's a baby in there?"
"Yes, there's a baby in there."

This went on for the rest of the book.  The next morning, when I got her out of her crib, she immediately ran to the book and handed it too me to read.  As we sat down, she turned and said, "There's a baby in there!" as she pointed to my belly.  I think your little-big sister finally realizes that you're on your way!  :)

Dwindling...

That's right!  I actually go entire days without any morning sickness now!  Sometimes there are even a few days in a row.  I know well enough not to say that the stage is entirely behind me, but I'm excited to note that it is definitely dwindling down!   It gets better...I am able to drink milk again!!  Anyone who knows me, knows that milk is my  beverage of choice, although water is still a close second.

I'm even starting to get my appetite back.  Things that sound delicious:
  • Parfait with vanilla yogurt, granola and strawberries
  • Mandarin oranges (I could eat these by the barrel!)
  • Grapes
  • Watermelon
  • Asian turkey lettuce wraps
  • Sushi rolls (fully cooked, of course)
  • More mandarin oranges
  • Strawberries
So...here's to the vomit-less months to come!  :)

A Birthday Thank You

Thank you, little one, for allowing me to go out with Daddy for a nice meal and a (much more anticipated) trip to Jeni's Ice Cream for my birthday without any sickness!  I think you enjoyed that ice cream just as much as I did and were savoring every last lick, like I was.  :)

**And thanks to Grandma and Grandpa for babysitting to make the evening out possible!

The Differences

We only have a few weeks before we find out your gender, my little shamrock!  So, I thought I'd fill you in on some of the things that are unique about your pregnancy:
  • The first trimester was filled with exhaustion and vomiting, just like my previous two...however, your morning sickness has been much more violent!  (Aunt Melinda was thoughtful enough to send me some "splash-guard" glasses, and I'm sorry to say that they actually came in handy quite a few times.)
  • I've been losing hair this pregnancy, whereas previous times I wouldn't lose any until postpartum.  The doctor had my thyroid checked and all is well...you're just throwing me for a loop in there!
  • I've had TONS of cravings for TONS of different things.  All of a sudden, one thing and one thing only sounds delicious.  Luckily they haven't been too crazy, but they haven't all been too healthy either!  I'm trying to keep a healthy balance between what I want to eat and what I should eat.  :)
  •  Your heartbeat has been a little lower than your sisters' were, but it's still strong and healthy!
  • I've been gaining weight much more slowly this pregnancy.  I think it has to do with the amount of morning sickness, but I probably just jinxed myself for the months ahead.
Every pregnancy is a little different, so who knows what all of this means.  All we know is, boy or girl, we are thrilled to call you ours!

Proud Moments

It's been quite a week for the Messmer family!  On Wednesday night at 10pm, your Aunt Megan was in an episode of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.  Her character showed up several times, she had a few lines and NAILED them!  It was so cool to see her on TV.  :)  I'm sure there will be more to come in the future.  This is just the beginning!
As if that wasn't enough, your Aunt Melinda defended her thesis on Thursday afternoon and brought the house down (despite having a fever and sore throat...talk about super woman!).  She passed, as we all knew she would, and is now a full-fledged PhD!  So, now you have two aunts and two uncles you can call doctors.  :)
